Welcome
Welcome to the Street Parishes. The Benefice of the Street Parishes is part of the Diocese of York, which is in turn part of the Church of England and the world-wide Anglican Communion. We worship the one true God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, revealed in the Bible, and we profess the one true faith expressed in the catholic creeds.
The Christian faith was brought to this area in the eighth century AD. There has been a Christian presence here ever since.
Our Mission
“To make Jesus Christ known”
Our hope is that everyone who belongs to the congregations of the Street Parishes is growing in knowledge of Jesus Christ: who he is, what he has done, and what he is doing in the world today. Based on a foundation of prayer, and expressed in worship and service, we want all our members to be able to share that knowledge with the wider community around us, so that people may discover the love of God at the centre of their lives. This was the mission of those who first built the churches of the Street Parishes well over 1000 years ago, and it is our mission here today.
Finding Us
The Street Parishes run along the old Roman Road, now the B1257, from Malton towards Helmsley, in North Yorkshire. The market town of Malton stands about 14 miles (22 kilometres) north-east of York, along the A64 road from York to Scarborough. The villages of The Street tend to lie just off the main road and the church buildings are not always visible until the visitor turns off the main road into the villages. Persistence has its reward. The church buildings are normally open to visitors every day during the hours of daylight.
